Special Smilies is a non-profit site dedicated to providing a safe, ad-free place where individuals (particularly children and families) can get smilies for use on their forums and websites, without the fear of objectionable ads and malicious content.  It is run by "Ravenswood" and "Mirz", a husband and wife team who also happen to be creators of the smiley webcomic Bitmap World.  We operate and administer over a dozen sites dedicated or providing safe content for users.  These sites are operated through our own funds. Donations are always happily accepted only to help defer hosting costs.

This site was started first and foremost to showcase Mirz's smilies. After years of creating emoticons for her various sites, many of which are no longer used, she wanted to share these creation with the online community. Her motivation to open a site featuring other smilies as well was prompted by hearing complaints from users that there were not a lot of sites that featured particular smilies, such as ones with a religious theme. Keepin in line with their "safe surf" philosophy, they endeavored to create a site which featured no objectionable content.

Michelle is a secretary by day, pixel-artist by night.  Jim is a computer programmer who does all of the custom coding for our sites. Together we think we make a really good team.  We love computer graphics, cartoons, video games (even though we have no time to play them anymore), writing fiction, and just being mom and dad.  Our goal in life is just to help make the world a little better place by using our computer talents to create websites and content for the enjoyment of the public.
